On Saturday, May 2, 2015, 50 volunteers joined together for a day of service for Burke Elementary School. This project originated through a collaborative partnership with Caring for Kids, a local organization created to bring churches, businesses and civic organizations together to help neighborhood schools reach goals and prepare children for life. Our vision is to help our students develop pride and a sense of ownership in our school.  Phase One was this beautification day. Adult and children volunteers from Burke, International House of Prayer Kansas City, Crosspoint Community Church, Bethel Family Worship Center, Hickman Mills Community Christian Church, LINC, and Turned the Page KC joined efforts to plant 7 redbud trees and various plants and flowers in the front of our building. Burke students will tend to these plants and grow their horticultural knowledge as they continue to take pride in and ownership of their school. A very special thanks is much owed to our project leaders Stephani Gilchrist and Stevetta Dickerson from IHOP-KC.  This event demonstrated what can happen when people join together for a positive cause.
