The Johnson library was more than happy to welcome back PT the Owl from KCPT.  He flew in Thursday evening during Johnson's open house and took picture with several of our scholars and a few of our teachers.  After visiting the library and leaving a few Electric Company activity books and bookmarks PT strolled around the halls of Johnson visiting classrooms and meeting more scholars.  Thank you so much PT for flying in to see us.  We hope you visit again soon.

  • What are you reading?

    Hello there readers!
We are finally back in school and I've see about half of the classes as of today.  Tomorrow is our first check out and it got me thinking--what is everyone reading?

I went to the library last night over by my house in Independence and I checked out some great books.  I'm really anxious to get started on them.

The first book I plan to read is 26 Fairmount Avenue by Tomie DePaola.  It's the beginning of a series of books in which Tomie writes about his childhood.  He grew up in Meriden, Connecticut during the 1930's and 1940's.  He begins his story by telling about the Hurricane of 1938.
We have this book in our library check it out and find out how Tomie feels when he sees Mr. Walt Disney's movie "Snow White."

I also checked out  , Three by the Sea by Mini Grey.  It is a tale of friendship between a black cat, a white dog and  a little grey mouse.  I can't wait to read and find out the challenges they face and how they manage to remain friends when they are all so different.

I really enjoyed my trip to the Mid-Continent Public Library last night, you should visit your local branch in Blue Ridge.  Well happy reading!

  • Welcome Back!

    Welcome back Johnson Jaguars!

Some of you may have noticed that while the librarian's name has remained the same her face has changed.  I am Ms. Sara McDonald and I am the previous librarian's older sister.  I have taught in the Hickman Mills School District for 12 years.  I began as a librarian when I joined the district and after 3 years I decided that I wanted to teach in my own classroom.  For the past 8 years I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade.  Before coming to the district I worked with Kindergarten in at a private preschool. So I've done a lot during my teaching career.

I am excited to be returning to the library.  I have some exciting new lessons and projects laid out for the coming school year and a ton of new books to share with you.

I am looking forward to working with both the students and the teachers at Johnson Elementary.
