| Mr. MacFarland, (A.K.A. Mr. Mac) was formerly the music teacher at Burke Elementary, where he received the 2007-2008 Building Teacher of the Year award. Prior to teaching Mr. Mac was a professional musician, playing guitar and keyboards in several bands that toured both nationally and internationally. As a musician, he won the John Lennon Songwriting Competition and the International Songwriting Competition. He currently still writes and records music on the side, and has had music featured in several commercials and movie trailers, and in the feature film “Body of Lies” starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Mr. MacFarland enjoys reading a great deal, and is interested in astronomy, video production, history, computers, theater, and quantum physics. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Composition from the University of Kansas. His wife, Tracy, is head of the History Department at Lawrence High School in Lawrence, KS. They have a two-year-old daughter, Evie. Mr. MacFarland’s father recently retired as a Professor of Radio/Television at Kansas State University, where his mother also works in the Theater Department as a director and instructor. Mr. Mac is thrilled to be a part of the CODE program, where he can work with students to explore all kinds of creative and intellectual avenues, both musical, and non-musical. | |
