1.       Goal : Student Performance

         1. Objective : Increase the number of 8th and 9th grad students reading at grade level by 10% as measured by MAP scores. SRI and Common Assessments will be utilized to benchmark progress throughout the school year.

             MSIP Standard:9.1


          1. Strategy : Students reading two grade levels below grade level as measured by SRI will be placed in Read 180 and students performing at Below Basic as measured by SRI will be placed in Systems 44 reading program.

          2. Strategy : Collaboration during common plan time with grade level department Data Teams to create and implement Common Units of Study and Assessments. Assessment data will be utilized to establish instructional strategies for reteaching to Mastery and unit SMART Goals for each class and student.

          3. Strategy : Benchmarks for Communication Arts Standards will be developed in order to assess and monitor student progress and mastery of required standards. Title 1 Literacy Coach will provide Professional Development for this work.


         2. Objective : All students in grades 8 and 9 will increase MAP/EOC levels of advanced and proficient in Math by 10%.


          1. Strategy : Increase instructional time for all students in math at both grade levels.

          2. Strategy : Benchmarking will be utilized to assess and monitor student progress and mastery of required standards.

          3. Strategy : The Title 1 Instructional Math coach will provide professional development for teachers in Differentiated Instruction via teaching table, flexible grouping and tiered interventions for targeted students.

              MSIP Standard: 6.7


          4. Strategy : Grade level Data Teams will utilize common plan time (PLC) to create and implement Common Units of Study and Assessments. Assessment data will be used to set SMART Goals for each unit. Data will be tracked by class and by student. Students will be targeted for extended learning instruction.

         3. Objective : By May 2013, the HMJH average daily attendance rate will be 96.3% as reported to DESE.             

          1. Strategy : Hickman Mills Junior High will develop an attendance plan to promote high student attendance. Attendance will be monitored more closely by classroom teachers, Advisement Teachers, counselors and administration.

    2. Goal : Highly Qualified Staff

         1. Objective : In order to develop and retain highly qualified staff members, $20,000.00 of the Title 1 funds will be utilized for Professional Development with a focus in the area of training for Data Teams and Differentiated Instruction.

          1. Strategy : Differentiated Instruction will be a district/building focus beginning with a full day workshop during Teacher Orientation week and follow dates throughout the year.

              MSIP Standard: 3.1,3.2,4.1,4.2,4.3,5.1


                 1.Action Step: Differentiated Instruction will be scheduled in the building Professional Development plan throughout the year.

    3. Goal : Facilities, Support, and Instructional Resources

         1. Objective : Provide teachers additional resources for creating high level instructional lessons in the classrooms.


          1. Strategy : Provide technology (Classroom Netbook Carts) for all Communication Arts classrooms and additional carts will be purchased for Science and Math classes in 2011-12 with Title 1 Funds.

    4. Goal : Parent and Community Involvement

         1. Objective : Increase family/parent participation in the educational process by 10% during the 2010-2011 school year as measured by participation in the parent portal of the student information system and participation in Open House and Student Lead Conferences.

          1. Strategy : Host parent information nights on a regular basis demonstrating use of parent portal and provide other opportunities for parent engagement in monitoring student progress.


                 1.Action Step:Provide regular communication to parents and community using the Infinite Campus parent portal, district phone system,


          2. Strategy : Improve transition from middle school to junior high and from junior high to high school.


                 1.Action Step: Provide college night, course selection night, school visits, as well as student/parent orientation events to ensure smooth transition from middle school to junior high and from junior high to high school.
