Overview

The health status of a child influences his/her ability to learn. The main focus of the school health service is to maintain, improve and promote the health and safety of the students.

A professional nurse is assigned to each school building. The school nurse assists children in acquiring knowledge and in developing attitudes conducive to a healthy lifestyle. The nurse plans and implements services to assess students' health and to deliver appropriate nursing care. These services include, but are not limited to:

1. First aid for ill or injured students and staff members.

2. Health counseling to students, parents and school personnel.

3. Health promotion programs to designated grade levels.

It is suggested that parents contact their school nurse if they have questions or concerns about their child's health that may be adversely affected in the school environment.
