FROM FOX4: KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There were positive results in the city Monday as two of its school districts celebrate their 2024 Annual Performance Reports (APRs).
Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) regained its accreditation in 2022. Hickman Mills has been provisionally accredited since 2012, the only school district in our metro provisionally accredited.
FROM THE TELEGRAPH: Nonprofit providers of free meals, transportation and other services for Jackson County seniors expect to see a boost of $7-8 million per year beginning in early 2026 after voters approved a new property tax to help those 60 and older.
Two leaders on the issue, Jackson County Legislator Donna Peyton and Shepherd’s Center Executive Director Janet Baker, spoke about how the funds will be rolled out at a recent meeting of the South Kansas City Alliance on November 11. They said the money is sorely needed because seniors are the fastest growing population in the county.
For years, Missouri education regulators concluded the Hickman Mills School District fell short in key ways. It was only partially accredited.
Now, the latest state performance reports show the small Kansas City district scoring above the threshold for full accreditation.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education released its latest Annual Performance Report scores for Missouri schools, reflecting the 2023-2024 school year.
The scores show that 60% of Missouri schools have increased their scores from last year
The Ruskin High School Thespian Troupe #3732 took center stage and captivated audiences with their stunning Pippin: The Musical performance from November 14-16, 2024. This theatrical triumph wasn’t just a showcase of student talent; it also paved the way for four performers to receive $55,000 in scholarships from The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts (NYCDA) through their prestigious Rising Star Scholarship Program.
On November 9, 2024, the talented students of Hickman Mills C-1 School District made waves at the 16th Annual Prep-KC Math Relays, showcasing incredible skill and dedication alongside nearly 300 students from KCPS, Center, Grandview, Allen Village, Kansas City, Kansas, and more. Bringing home the overall first-place title, Hickman Mills C-1 District students demonstrated academic excellence across multiple categories, solidifying our community’s commitment to preparing students for a successful future!
FROM KSHB 41: KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Officials in the Hickman Mills School District expressed frustration Tuesday with a delay in releasing the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's annual performance report.
Alvin Brooks, a dedicated Hickman Mills C-1 School Board member, has been named the 2024 honoree of the Paul Morris Community Service Award by the FutureBuilders Foundation. The award, given in recognition of his lifelong commitment to community service, volunteerism, and public safety, was presented at the Missouri School Board Association’s (MSBA) Annual Conference at the Westin Crown Center this fall.
FROM KCTV5: KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A decision to delay the release of Annual Performance Report scores from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has a local school district expressing its frustration.
On Thursday, November 7, a team of students from Ruskin High School’s Career Education Consortium (CEC) demonstrated exceptional creativity and problem-solving skills at the MECA Challenge at IDEA Space KC. This event, organized in collaboration with Startland and IDEA Space KC, brought 107 students across 16 teams from several local districts.
