Parents of Smith Hale Students:
Although your student is still in Middle School, it’s never too early for them and for you to start thinking about college. The Hickman Mills C-1 School District is proud to participate in the Missouri A+ Scholarship Program and this is a great way to get started on your student’s college journey! The A+ Scholarship program can provide full tuition credit and is available only to eligible graduating students, for use in participating public community colleges, or vocational/technical schools in the State of Missouri.
So why am I writing this note now? It is never too early for students to be aware of the requirements for earning the A+ Scholarship as they move onto their high school years. Here is a list of four of the main requirements to keep in mind. Students must:
- Graduate from high school with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Have at least 95% (unrounded) attendance record for high school.
- Perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring or mentoring under the supervision of school district employees, of which 25% (12.5 Hours) may include job shadowing.
- Achieve a score of proficient or advanced on the Algebra I End of Course Exam or have a score of 17 or higher on the math portion of the ACT.
Students can complete and file an A+ Agreement beginning in their 9th grade year. The A+ Staff will review and monitor individual academic and attendance records throughout a student’s four years of high school.
Ruskin High School graduates have a great opportunity to earn the A+ Scholarship. It costs only the time and energy needed to maintain and complete the program requirements. Thus, all Hickman Mills students are encouraged to complete and file an agreement form with the A+ Office. If more information is needed, please feel free to contact me at the phone or email listed below, or by going to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (https://dhe.mo.gov/ppc/grants/aplusscholarship.php)
I look forward to meeting with you and your student in the near future!
Sincerely,
Michael Weiler, Athletic Director / A+ Coordinator
