Summer Food Program Feeds Kids & Teens for Free
This summer, the HMC-1 Nutrition Services team will serve breakfast, lunch and supper meals June 6 – June 29, Monday through Friday. Serving times vary by site; please check at each building. There are no income or registration requirements. Any child under age 18 may come eat for free.

30 HMC-1 Students Receive KC Scholars Awards
Sixteen 11th graders received a renewable $10,000 scholarship. Fourteen 9th graders received the College Savings Match program.

District Executive Team Welcomes New Members & Reorganization
The Hickman Mills C-1 School District (HMC-1) has named new leadership to its executive leadership team through a reorganization. Following two recent resignations, Superintendent Yolanda Cargile, Ed.D., took the opportunity to review staffing allocations and look for ways to right-size the district within the executive leadership team.

Ruskin High School Holds Mobile Food Pantry
Ruskin High School will hold a Mobile Food Pantry at the high school on Thursday, April 19, 2018, from approximately 4:00-5:30 pm. The food pantry will be held in the front parking lot at 7000 E. 111th St., Kansas City, Missouri, 64134.

Marissa Wamble Cleaver has agreed to join the executive leadership team as the director of public information and partnerships for 2018/19 school year.

New Program Combats Effects of Trauma
HMC-1 will be implementing the Trauma Smart program, which helps children, their parents, and school staff address the negative effects of violence and trauma.

Freshman Center and Ruskin Students Compete in PREP KC Math Relays
On November 4, more than 400 students from across the region participated in the 8th Annual PREP KC Math Relays in Grandview, including HMC-1 students from the Hickman Mills Freshman Center and Ruskin High School. We congratulate the following students who medaled.

Announcing the Hickman Mills Career Pathways Project at Ruskin High School
The project is a new partnership that will offer work-skills training courses after school to eligible students 18 and older at Ruskin High School. These courses will offer industry-recognized credentials for in-demand jobs in the Greater Kansas City Area.

Educational Foundation's Annual Gala Raises $25,000
The annual event is the Foundation's largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds will directly benefit HMC-1 students and teachers through senior scholarships, attendance rewards, classroom grants, and more.

Veterans Invited to Special Breakfast Honoring Their Service
Past and present military personnel are invited to a special Veterans Day breakfast on Thursday, November 9, 2017. The event is hosted by the Ruskin High School Marine Corps JROTC, who annually honors the sacrifices veterans have contributed to the United States of America.

HMC-1 Students to Safely View Solar Eclipse
The Hickman Mills C-1 School District (HMC-1) recognizes the outstanding educational opportunity the August 21 solar eclipse presents students. HMC-1 also understands the profound safety concerns around the lifetime of damage that can be caused by looking at the sun. Therefore, out of an abundance of safety, all HMC-1 students will be inside the classroom during Monday’s solar eclipse.

HMC-1 Participates in Community Eligibility Program & School Breakfast Program
The Hickman Mills C-1 School District (HMC-1) is participating in a free breakfast and lunch program for the 2017-2018 school year. This alternative is referred to as the Community Eligibility Provision. All students enrolled in the school district may participate in the breakfast and lunch programs at no charge. Household applications for free and reduced price meals will not be collected.
