Luther Chandler Sworn in to Board of Education
Yesterday afternoon, Luther Chandler was sworn in as a member of the Hickman Mills C-1 School District Board of Education. Mr. Chandler was appointed to fill an open position and will serve the remainder of the current term.

Summer Food Program Feeds Kids for Free
School is out for the summer, and it’s time to think about keeping children healthy. The Hickman Mills C-1 School District provides free meals to children during the summer.

HMC-1 To Lose Funding for LINC Program Next Year
The LINC Caring Communities before and after school program in the Hickman Mills C-1 School District (HMC-1) will be offered four days a week during the 2017-18 school year. The plan is to offer the program Monday through Thursday, with no child care provided on Friday for our students in grades first through ninth.

19 Year Veteran of HMC-1 Appointed Smith-Hale Middle School Principal
Shaunda Fowler, Ph.D. will be the next principal of Smith-Hale Middle School, effective July 1, 2017. Fowler has served in the district for several years in various principal and executive roles, most recently as principal of Ervin Early Learning Center.

AdvancEd Review Team Recommends HMC-1 For International Accreditation
After an extensive review process, an AdvancEd review team made up of nine educators has referred HMC-1 for international accreditation.

Torrence Allen Announced as New Ruskin High School Principal
Effective July 1, 2017, Torrence Allen will be the new face leading the way at Ruskin High School. Currently, he serves as the assistant principal at Ruskin and has been with the District for just under two years.

23 Year Veteran of HMC-1 Named Next Principal of Johnson Elementary
The HMC-1 Board of Education has approved the appointment of Connie Moore as the next principal of Johnson Elementary. Moore has served in the HMC-1 for 23 years in various roles and is looking forward to continuing the current success at Johnson Elementary.

Ruskin High School Principal to Join Executive Leadership Team
Effective July 1, 2017, Dawn Smith will be the new face of Hickman Mills C-1 School District’s Student Services department. Currently, Smith serves as principal at Ruskin High School and has been with the District for almost three years.

Smith-Hale Principal to Join HMC-1 Executive Leadership Team
Effective July 1, 2017, Dan Weakley will assume the role of Director of Operations. Weakley is currently the principal of Smith-Hale Middle School. In his new role, he will be responsible for District transportation, security, maintenance, custodial, grounds, nutritional services, and all activities that ensure efficient operation of the school district.

HMC-1 Selects New Superintendent From Within
The Hickman Mills C-1 School District Board of Education has selected HMC-1's own Dr. Yolanda Cargile as who they would like to be the next superintendent. Cargile currently serves as associate superintendent of student services for the district. The decision was unanimous with a 6-0 vote and contract negotiations will now take place.

Dr. Dennis L. Carpenter, currently Hickman Mills School District superintendent, will serve as the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District’s 2017-18 superintendent beginning July 1, 2017.

The 7th Annual Prep-KC Math Relays was a huge success for HMC-1 students, with the District claiming the championship trophy.

New Coordinator of Early Learning Programs Selected
On October 27, Jillian Meriweather was approved by the Hickman Mills C-1 School District Board of Directors to join the team as the new coordinator of early learning programs. Meriweather will be responsible for facilitating the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of District pre-K and kindergarten programming, resources, and staff development.

HMC-1 Heading in the Right Direction With Test Scores
The 2016 Annual Performance Report reflects improvement in all 5 categories, as measured by the Missouri School Improvement Program. Additional highlights also reflect an upward trend.
