Summer Food Program Provides Free Meals for Kids
This summer, the HMC-1 Nutrition Services team will serve breakfast, lunch, and supper meals June 13-28, Monday through Friday at select locations. Any child under age 18 may come eat for free.

Culinary Team Takes Second Place in National Competition
The Herndon Career Center Culinary team, which includes two Ruskin High School seniors, took second place out of 47 teams in the National ProStart Invitational Culinary Arts competition.

District Seeks Insight from HMC-1 Community Through Survey
Beginning April 30, an online survey will be available across HMC-1 for all community members to take part. The online survey “grades” various areas of the school district, providing insights into what residents think about the district’s strengths, challenges and priorities for the district’s future.

Students to Interview Kansas City Mayoral Candidates
Symington Elementary 6th grade students will interview ten of the candidates vying to be the next mayor of Kansas City, Missouri. The students’ questions will focus on important issues that impact the Hickman Mills C-1 School District community including financial resources, health care, safety, neighborhood revitalization, and education.

HMC-1 Makes Significant Gains on Annual Performance Report
HMC-1 received its highest percentage in five years on Missouri’s Annual Performance Report. HMC-1 earned a 77%, putting the district on track to regain full accreditation status from the State of Missouri. The substantial growth is a result of several factors including an increase in points earned in mathematics.

New Program Seeks to Eradicate Homelessness in the District
Just under 500 students were classified as homeless in the Hickman Mills C-1 School District during the 2017-2018 school year. The district has teamed up with local non-profit organizations to form Impact Hickman Mills with the goal of eliminating homelessness in the district.

United Way Receives Over $16,000 for Loads of Love

RideKC Student Pass Provides Students Free Rides
New RideKC Student Pass gives students in grades 9-12 free, unlimited access to the region. Free bus rides will link students to job centers and regional activities

HMC-1 Provides Breakfast and Lunch at No Charge for All Students
HMC-1 is once again participating in a free breakfast and lunch program for the 2018-2019 school year. This alternative is referred to as the Community Eligibility Provision. All students enrolled in the school district may participate in the breakfast and lunch programs at no charge.

Derek Jordan Named Smith-Hale Middle School Principal
The Hickman Mills C-1 School District (HMC-1) Board of Education has named Derek Jordan, Sr., Ed.S. as the new principal of Smith-Hale for the 2018-19 school year.

Board of Education Receives Training
The Hickman Mills Board of Education participated in a board development workshop facilitated by the Missouri School Boards’ Association on July 23, 2018. The workshop emphasized the important role board members play and how effective boards operate to improve student achievement.
