Ann E. Coleman has been an educator in the Kansas City area for 40 years. She has taught elementary as well as special education classes. She received her Bachelors of Arts and a Master’s Degree in Elementary and Special Education, from Avila University. Her desire to be a Board Director for the Hickman Mills C-1 School District comes from her passion for education and being an advocate for children. She wants to work with the other Board of Directors, community and parents as a team, to collaborate and listen to each other to continue to move the district forward.

Irene C. Kendrick, Co-President

Irene Kendrick is a human resource professional who has lived in the HMC-1 community for more than 30 years. She has been married for 35 years. She is an HMC-1 alumna, as are her children and grandchildren. Kendrick attended DeVry University, where she studied Human Resources Management and Services. Since her retirement, she has chosen to dedicate her time and energy to working for her community, serving on the Grandview Parks and Recreation, as Commissioner and the Hickman Mills C-1 School District as Assistant Vice President of the PTA, and a member of the Mentoring Program at Warford Elementary, where her granddaughter attends.

Beth Boerger, Director

Beth Ann Boerger was employed for twelve years in the Budget & Finance Department for the Grandview CSD4 School District. After leaving the district, she worked at Health Midwest in the treasury office. She then served as a bookkeeper for Kansas City Public Schools, where she worked with administration, staff, and students. She was directly involved in managing the school budget, payroll, purchasing and student activity funds. She has an Associate Degree and Accounting Certification from Longview Community College, and has taken finance classes from UMKC. She was inspired to join the board because of her 22 years of experience with school districts. To her, serving on the board is a way to use her experience to help the students, staff, and her community.

Carol Graves, Director

Before joining HMC-1’s Board of Education, Carol Graves served as a special education teacher for 21 years. She earned a Bachelor’s of Arts from Rockhurst College, and a Masters of Arts and Educational Specialist certification from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. Ms. Graves joined the HMC-1 Board to make an impact not only on the students, but the community as a whole. This is the driving force behind everything she does to try and make a difference. Ms. Graves previously served as the board president of the HMC-1 Board of Education.

Byron Townsend, Director

Byron Townsend graduated from Kansas City East High School in 1986, and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness. He is part of the National Association of Letter Carriers, serving as the Branch 30 officer for 25 years and 15 years on the Executive Board. Mr. Townsend has deep roots in the district. He and his wife, Shelly, have had one of their children in HMC-1 every year since 1992. One of his children is a Hickman High School graduate, two are Ruskin High School graduates, and one is currently in Smith-Hale Middle School.

Brandon is a dedicated educator and advocate for student success. With seven years of experience at Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools, he has made a significant impact in various roles. Beginning as a Band and Mariachi teacher, Brandon's passion for education and his commitment to fostering students' talents shone through. Currently serving as the Student Information Systems, Data, and Transportation Coordinator, he plays a vital role in ensuring efficient operations and effective data management within the school system.
Brandon's educational journey includes earning a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Missouri (UCM) and a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). These qualifications have equipped him with a strong foundation in both instructional practices and leadership principles.
Driven by his desire to make a difference in the lives of students, Brandon has extended his impact beyond the classroom. He actively participates in the Hickman Mills school board, utilizing his expertise and insights to advocate for students' needs and champion the delivery of high-quality education for every learner in the district. Brandon's dedication to educational equity and his belief in the transformative power of education drive his commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive.
With a unique blend of educational experience, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of student needs, Brandon is an invaluable asset to the education community. His passion for education, coupled with his commitment to advocating for students, makes him a powerful advocate for change and an inspiration to those he works with. Brandon's mission is clear: to create an educational landscape where every student can reach their full potential and receive the quality education they deserve. Through his unwavering dedication and collaborative approach, he strives to make a lasting impact on the lives of students, families, and the community as a whole.
