Department of Nutrition Services
The Nutrition Services team coordinates meal planning and development, procurement of food supplies, and the implementation of nutritional guidelines. They may also oversee the cafeteria or outsourced food vendors to ensure quality standards are met.
Responsibilities & Services
- Establishes quality standards for the presentation and service of food.
- Implements a district-wide customer service driven philosophy that focuses on value and satisfaction.
- Establishes procedures to ensure that food is prepared and served in a sanitary and safe environment.
- Develops and integrates employee safety regulations into all phases of the school food service operation.
- Establishes measurable financial objectives and goals for the Child Nutrition Program.
- Establishes standards for receiving, storing, and inventorying food and non-food supplies based on sound principles of management.
- Ensures Child Nutrition Program compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
- Develops cost-effective menus that maintain nutrition integrity and meet all local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.
- Works with school staff, teachers, parents, and physicians to plan menus for children with special nutrition needs.
- Develops a long-range program for establishing professional status for the Child Nutrition Program’s role in the education community.
- Implements personnel policies and procedures for the Child Nutrition Program according to local, state, and federal regulations and laws.
- Establishes standards for the professional development of the district’s Child Nutrition Program personnel.
- Determines equipment needs and specifications consistent with program needs and budget.

HMC-1 Participates in Community Eligibility Program & School Breakfast Program
The Hickman Mills C-1 School District (HMC-1) will participate in a free breakfast and lunch program for the 2024-2025 school year. The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program allows eligible schools in high-poverty areas to serve free breakfast and lunch to all students, regardless of income. All students in the school district may participate in the breakfast and lunch programs at no charge. The district will not collect household applications for free and reduced-price meals.
