Road to Sustainable Destiny

Road to Sustainable Destiny

Join us on The Road to a Sustainable Destiny!

2025 Meet and Greet

In Fall 2025, HMC-1 launched The Road to a Sustainable Destiny — an open, ongoing conversation about the future of our schools. This is your opportunity to join students, families, staff, and community members as we collaborate to align our budget with the district's needs and develop a robust, sustainable plan for the years ahead.

Through Town Halls, listening sessions, and opportunities to engage, you will help shape the roadmap for what comes next. The journey is just beginning, but together, we can ensure our community is ready for the future — because the power of one voice grows when we come together as One Team.

This is a live webpage. We will update with engagement feedback, frequently asked questions and answers, additional resources and documents, and more as we go through the engagement process.

Building a Bright Future Together in HMC-1: 2026-2027 School Year

As we prepare to welcome students back for the 2026-2027 school year, Hickman Mills C-1 School District is taking an important step toward building a stronger future for our students, staff, and community.

Hickman Mills is more than a school district. It is a community built on pride, resilience, and a shared commitment to helping every student succeed. That commitment continues to guide the district’s Road to a Sustainable Destiny, a long-term plan designed to protect academic opportunities while ensuring the district remains financially strong for years to come.

Earlier this year, the Board of Education approved a school reconfiguration plan that will take effect at the start of the 2026-2027 school year. These changes allow the district to use resources more efficiently, maintain safe and well-maintained schools, preserve outstanding educational programs, and continue investing in the talented teachers and staff who make HMC-1 special.

The goal is simple: create the best possible learning environment for students while ensuring the district remains sustainable for future generations.

What’s Changing?

Beginning this fall, students will experience a new school structure designed to better support learning at every grade level.

A New Sixth-Grade Experience
All sixth-grade students will attend the Brooks Sharp Sixth-Grade Center at Santa Fe. Bringing every sixth grader together creates a dedicated learning environment that supports students during one of the most important transitions in their educational journey while expanding opportunities for academic and social growth.

One Middle School for Grades 7-8
Hickman Mills Middle School will become the district’s home for all seventh- and eighth-grade students. This unified middle school model creates greater consistency, expands educational opportunities, and allows resources to be focused where they have the greatest impact.

A New Home for Truman Elementary
The current Alvin Brooks Middle School campus is being reimagined as Truman Elementary at Ervin, serving students in Pre-K through fifth grade. Truman Elementary students and staff will move to the new campus together, helping preserve the strong relationships and supportive school community families know and value.

Updated Elementary Boundaries
As the district transitions from seven elementary schools to six, some attendance boundaries have changed. These updates help balance enrollment across the district and ensure students continue learning in high-quality learning environments.

Together, these changes position HMC-1 to continue providing high-quality educational opportunities while strengthening the district’s future. By investing wisely today, we are ensuring our students have the resources, support, and learning environments they need to succeed for years to come.

We look forward to welcoming all of our students back for an exciting new school year!
