The Family School Liaison is responsible for the coordination of services provided to students and families for eliminating barriers to academic success. The FSL works in partnership with school personnel and community resources to ensure the healthy development of the student academically, behaviorally, and socially. The most important component of the FSL duties is the development of the Student Assistance and Family Empowerment (S.A.F.E.) team. The S.A.F.E  team identifies at-risk students in order to coordinate services, strategies, and interventions through open dialogue to create a service plan. The S.A.F.E. team includes the parents, guidance counselor, behavior interventionist, student service advocates, administration and the teacher. Other essential responsibilities of the FSL include crisis intervention, behavior support and social skills groups, and targeted case management. The FSL acts as a liaison for community resources assistance to link families to uniforms, school supplies, employment counseling, homelessness, transportation, medical/mental health referrals, and other identified needs.
