• Missouri State Law Immunization Changes for 2016-2017

Missouri State Law requires students in public schools to be immunized against vaccine-preventable diseases.

For the 2016-2017 school year, Missouri State Law will require the following:

Incoming 8th grade students will need an initial dose of the Meningococcal Meningitis vaccine, in addition to the T-Dap vaccine. Various names for the meningitis vaccine include: Menactra, Mennieo, and Menamune.

Parents will need to provide proof of these immunizations prior to the start of school in August 2016.

Current 8th grade students will be required to have a total of 2 doses of the vaccine prior to entering the 12th grade.

Smith Hale Middle School will host several immunization clinics before August 2016. There will be one in the spring of 2016, one during Summer School, and again during centralized enrollment at the Hickman Freshman Center.

Students will not be allowed to start school without proof of the T-Dap and meningitis vaccines. Parents, please take advantage of one of the three opportunities to get your child vaccinated.

This is a free service provided by the school district in cooperation with the Kansas City Health Department. Consent forms will be sent out prior to each clinic. Be sure to check your child’s backpack for the form. FOrms must be returned directly to the nurse prior to the day of the clinic. Dates will be announced via phone blast. If you have any questions, please contact Rosemary James, RN; School Nurse at Smith Hale Middle School.
