Why I Chose Education as My Career Choice
I am driven by my passion to help the LEAST expected to do the UNexpected because I know it's possible.
My freshman year in college, a professor told me that statistically because of our background, my siblings and I were not be expected to graduate from high school, let alone be accepted to or graduate from college. I have four sisters and one brother. My dad never went to college, and my mother graduated college after I did. Today, all of my siblings and I have graduated from college, two of us have Doctorate degrees, three have Master's degrees and one is working on a Master's in Education.
I chose a career in education because I believe that the best way to help the LEAST expected to do the UNexpected is to improve their educational experiences and access to opportunities. Over the last 20 years, I have worked with students and families in Kansas City to create or improve educational programming and increase opportunities.
I chose to become a certified teacher to continue my work in education, gain more insight and experience with school systems, balance my personal and professional lives, and pursue my passion for working with students like me- those who statistically are not expected to excel.
I love traveling with my husband and children (19-year-old Josiah and 15-year-old Amiyah), refinishing furniture, renovating my home, going to World’s of Fun and LEARNING.
