HMC-1 Inclement Weather Options

  • Inclement Weather OptionsWhile the weather may be beautiful outside today, we know things could quickly take a turn for the worse in Kansas City. To be prepared for emergencies, below is an outline of the district’s approach to inclement weather.
     
    INCLEMENT WEATHER OPTIONS:
    Virtual Day: (BLUE) - Teach and learn from home day. Students will participate in live instruction via video conferencing. Student devices will go home the day before a virtual learning day. Non-essential 12-month staff will work remotely on that day or as directed by their supervisor. Essential personnel will report.
     
    No School Day: (ORANGE) - No school day for students. Teachers and staff will work remotely. Non-essential 12-month staff will work remotely on that day or as directed by their supervisor. Essential personnel will report.
     
    District Closed: (RED) - No school or work day for teachers and students. Non-essential 12-month staff will work remotely on that day or as their supervisor directs. Essential personnel will report. All athletic events are canceled.
     
    District Black-Out Day: (BLACK) - Every district building is closed. No school, no work day for teachers and students. All 12-month staff will work remotely on that day or as their supervisor directs. All athletic events are canceled.
     
     
    COMMUNICATIONS METHODS:
    In the event of a virtual instruction day due to inclement weather, we commit to utilizing various communication channels to reach our community effectively:
     
    1. HMC ONE SQUARE (formerly known as ParentSquare) - service will broadcast the following to staff and families: 

    • Email
    • Telephone Message – Please ensure HMC-1 has your correct phone number
    • Text message – Please ensure HMC-1 has your correct phone number
    • App Notification – Must download the HMC One Square App - Apple Store | Google Play

     
    2. ONLINE OUTLETS - Announcements are posted on the following district online outlets:

     
    3. TV NEWS - The district will provide information through the following local television stations 

    • WDAF Fox4
    • KCTV-5
    • KMBC-9
    • KSHB-41

     
    EARLY DECISION-MAKING:
    Recognizing the potential disruptions in inclement weather can pose to families, we aim to make weather-related announcements as early as possible, preferably the night before. While this is a goal, unforeseen conditions may prompt same-day decisions, which will be communicated no later than 5:30 a.m.
