Welcome

  • Dear Burke Academy Families,

Cynthia Corn This new year brings about a new hope and a new focus.  This focus is on helping all of our students come TOGETHER and push for new successes for their future.  No matter where your child wants to go in life, the staff and I here at Burke Academy are ready and excited to assist your child to go to heights she or he has never thought possible.

The staff and I spent all summer attending trainings, gathering new ideas, perfecting our craft, and creating a learning environment that is warm and welcoming so that the classes this year will be more engaging, connecting to the real world, and preparing our students to be lifelong learners and getting them ready to take on the world outside the school door with the appropriate knowledge so they can ultimately be successful!

In addition to the classroom training, the staff and I also engaged in furthering our knowledge of how best to serve in a trauma sensitive school.  This continued focus on being trauma sensitive has been a tremendous change in our building that keeps producing the positive results we love to see and the students deserve to have.  Coinciding with trauma sensitive approaches, Burke Academy is now implementing Restorative Practices school-wide. The use of Restorative Practices in our program has proven to be highly successful and we are now looking to bring that paradigm and cultural shift to all classes and all students who will attend at Burke Academy.

Moving forward, I ask that you get involved; come visit during the day, attend parent nights, call or email your child’s teachers.  There is so much happening on a day to day basis, we’d love to have you as our guest to see all the great things we have in store. Your student’s success is our ultimate priority, and we will work TOGETHER as a team to make this year the best year yet!  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to be a part of any of our parent committees.

    Sincerely,

    Cynthia Corn, Principal
