  • COMPASS PRINCIPAL ANNOUNCED: The HMC-1 Board of Education has named Erica Hoard the new principal of Compass Elementary. Mrs. Hoard is “home-grown” talent who was educated in HMC-1 and graduated from Ruskin High School. She has also spent the majority of her professional career in HMC-1.   • SHAPING OUR FUTURE UPDATE: During the Feb. 21 HMC-1 Board of Education meeting, MGT Consulting presented their final recommendations to address building usage, capacity, and budget reductions.   • PUBLIC MEETING ANNOUNCED: A third HMC-1: Shaping Our Future public meeting has been scheduled for 6:00 pm, Tuesday, February 12 in the Smith-Hale Middle School multipurpose room. MGT Consulting Group will present options being reviewed that address the capacity and funding issues of the district.   • SIGNIFICANT GAINS IN TEST SCORES: HMC-1 received its highest percentage in five years on Missouri’s Annual Performance Report. HMC-1 earned a 77%, putting the district on track to regain full accreditation status from the State of Missouri.   • ENDING HOMELESSNESS: HMC-1 has teamed up with local non-profit organizations to form Impact Hickman Mills with the goal of eliminating homelessness in the district.   • BIG HONORS FOR SMITH-HALE: Students and educators from Smith-Hale Middle School are among an elite group selected to present to hundreds of attendees at the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) conference – PLTW Summit – in Kansas City on November 15.   • TAX LEVY HEARING & RECAP OF SPECIAL MEETING: On September 11, HMC-1's Board of Education met to discuss increasing the district's tax levy as a result of overstated assessed property values by Jackson County.   • NEW VISITOR & VOLUNTEER SECURITY PROCEDURES: Beginning Monday, September 17, 2018, all HMC-1 buildings will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System to strengthen campus safety for students and faculty. The Raptor system will better allow us to screen visitors, contractors, and volunteers in our schools and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff. Upon entering a district building, visitors will be asked to present a government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, which can either be scanned or manually entered into the system.   • #HMC1AttendanceMatters: This September, we are holding our "Let's Be Present...Attendance Matters" campaign to highlight why it is so important for your child to be at school every day and on time. Each week, parents will receive an email with an attendance tip and information. Tips will also be shared on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
