  • BIG HONORS FOR SMITH-HALE: Students and educators from Smith-Hale Middle School are among an elite group selected to present to hundreds of attendees at the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) conference – PLTW Summit – in Kansas City on November 15. They are one of just five groups from across the country chosen to present. PLTW selected Smith-Hale based on the school’s exceptional implementation of their PLTW programs. Read the full story.

  • TAX LEVY HEARING & RECAP OF SPECIAL MEETING: On September 11, HMC-1's Board of Education met to discuss increasing the district's tax levy as a result of overstated assessed property values by Jackson County. The evening's presentation and voting results are now available online. A hearing to set the tax levy will be held at 6:15 pm, September 20.

  • NEW VISITOR & VOLUNTEER SECURITY PROCEDURES: Beginning Monday, September 17, 2018, all HMC-1 buildings will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System to strengthen campus safety for students and faculty. The Raptor system will better allow us to screen visitors, contractors, and volunteers in our schools and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff. Upon entering a district building, visitors will be asked to present a government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, which can either be scanned or manually entered into the system.   • #HMC1AttendanceMatters: This September, we are holding our "Let's Be Present...Attendance Matters" campaign to highlight why it is so important for your child to be at school every day and on time. Each week, parents will receive an email with an attendance tip and information. Tips will also be shared on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Then Wednesday, September 26, we want to see each and every child at school for our HMC-1 Day of Perfect Attendance.

  • ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SUPERINTENDENT'S COUNCIL: Superintendent Yolanda Cargile, Ed.D. is accepting applications from students grades 7-12 to participate in her Student Advisory Council. All eligible students are strongly encouraged to apply. This is a unique opportunity to speak directly with Superintendent Cargile and voice your opinion on topics that matter to you. Applications are due no later than September 14.

  • ENROLLMENT: Returning families still needing to enroll for the 2018-2019 school year should complete their Online Application. Once the application is submitted and approved, you will receive a follow-up email.

    Families new the district should visit our Residency & Enrollment office to enroll. Parents are encouraged to fill out our Online Registration application prior to visiting.

  • WELCOME DEREK JORDAN, SR., ED.S. The HMC-1 Board of Education has named Derek Jordan, Sr., Ed.S. as the new principal of Smith-Hale Middle School for the 2018-19 school year. Jordan has more than 30 years of experience as an educator and brings strong leadership to Smith-Hale. Read the full article.

  • SCHOOL SUPPLY LISTS: Schools have begun posting their supply lists for the 2018-19 school year. You can find all lists on our school supplies page. Missouri's Back to School Sales Tax Holiday will be August 3-5.

  • ENROLLMENT HAS BEGUN! Online Registration is now open to begin enrolling your child in the 2018/19 school year. Complete Online Registration in the comfort of your home by July 23 to receive a FAST PASS for Centralized Registration. Returning parents must have a Parent Portal account to complete Online Registration. Assistance is available if you have questions or need help setting up a Parent Portal account.

  • SUMMER MEALS: In addition to HMC-1's Summer Meal Program, the Mid-Continent Public Library - Red Bridge branch will once again host Harvesters’ Kids Cafe program, which offers free meals to all children and teens (18 and under) throughout the summer until August 10.  Find out the days and times that Kids Cafe will be offered at MCPL branches on the Library’s website. All summer sites accept walk-ins and do not require pre-registration. A full list of Kids Cafe sites can be found on Harvesters’ website

  • IMPORTANT CHANGES TO THE 2018/19 CALENDAR: An updated District calendar for the 2018/19 school year is available to download. Please note the first day of school will now be August 15. There are also two additional days of no school so staff can participate in professional development. Similar changes have also been made to the 2019/20 calendar.

  • IMPORTANT DATES: As we approach the end of school, please remember these important dates:

    • Thursday, May 24 will be a full day of school for students. Please disregard any calendars that state it is a half day.
    • There will be no school Monday, May 28 in recognition of Memorial Day.
    • The last day of school will be Friday, June 1. This will be a half-day for students.
    • For students attending summer school, the first day will be Wednesday, June 6. (Bus routes will be posted to the District's website.)

  • HMC-1 SAFETY & SECURITY MEASURES: The recent events at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida have left us all deeply sadden. We know that such tragedies can cause a student to worry and stress about school.
