HMC-1 Continues Free Breakfast & Lunch Program
The Hickman Mills C-1 School District (HMC-1) is participating in a free breakfast and lunch program for the 2023-2024 school year. This alternative is referred to as the Community Eligibility Provision. All students enrolled in the school district may participate in the breakfast and lunch programs at no charge. Household applications for free and reduced-priced meals will not be collected.
“Studies show that hungry children often do not perform as well as their peers. By providing breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge, we eliminate a financial barrier for our students that may impact learning,” said Grennan Sims, director of nutrition services for HMC-1. “School meals directly support education.”
The breakfast and lunch programs in HMC-1 schools follow U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines for healthy school meals. These programs cannot succeed without parental support. The school district urges parents to encourage their children to participate in the school meal programs served to all students at no charge.
