World Cultures Family Night Highlights Diversity and Inclusion

HMC-1 World Cultures NightHickman Mills C-1 Schools presented its annual World Cultures Family Night on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. The English Language Department hosted the enriching cultural experience at the Compass Elementary Gym.

The World Cultures Family Night celebrated diversity, showcasing the talents and contributions of English Language as a Second Language (ESL) students from Hickman Mills C-1 Schools, representing more than 30 countries. This event aims to foster cultural understanding, promote inclusivity, and create a sense of unity within the community.

Attendees had the opportunity to view and appreciate ESL students’ creative works, including artwork, projects, and presentations reflecting the rich tapestry of cultures within the school district. The event also featured a delightful array of international cuisines, allowing participants to sample food from various corners of the world.

World Cultures NightIn addition to the visual and culinary delights, World Cultures Family Night provided an interactive experience by displaying artifacts and traditional clothing from different cultures. This hands-on approach aims to enhance cultural awareness and appreciation among attendees.

“We are excited to showcase the incredible diversity within our student body and provide a platform for our ESL students to share their unique perspectives,” said ELD Specialist Swapnam Kumar. “World Cultures Family Night is an opportunity for our community to come together, celebrate our differences, and learn from one another.”
