HMC-1 Celebrates Teachers’ Achievements in Real-World Learning Initiative

RWL Honored HMC-1 TeachersThe Real-World Learning (RWL) initiative recently announced that area dedicated teachers, including Ruskin High School’s Jennifer Hamilton and Katy Bergeron and Hickman Mills Middle School’s Jim Newland, have completed its CCP (Client-Connected Projects) Apprenticeship Program. RWL recognized these educators for their commitment to providing students with meaningful learning experiences through a year-long peer mentoring program to enhance real-world learning in classrooms across the region.

The CCP Apprenticeship Program is designed to equip teachers with the skills and insights to implement CCPs in core and elective classrooms. The goal is to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and real-world application, ensuring students engage in authentic learning experiences.

Key highlights of the program included:

  • Comprehensive Workshop: A foundational three-day workshop provided educators with essential knowledge and strategies for implementing CCPs.
  • Ongoing Coaching: Continuous support throughout the 2023-2024 school year, including access to resources and one-on-one guidance.
  • Employer Engagement: Strategies for effectively collaborating with employers to enhance student learning experiences.
  • Student Journey: Building a comprehensive pathway towards real-world learning success.
  • Design Thinking: Utilizing project prompts and design thinking methodologies within CCPs.
  • Project Execution: Developing confidence in designing and executing successful CCPs, including project planning and execution.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow educators, both in-person and online, to share best practices and insights.

Ms. Hamilton, Ms. Bergeron, and Mr. Newland have been outstanding in their commitment to this initiative. They have significantly impacted over 1,300 students through the completion of client-connected projects. Their efforts have fostered essential connections between the classroom and the workforce by collaborating with more than 100 community employer partners, further enriching student learning experiences.

Hamilton and Bergeron have been instrumental in bringing innovative project-based learning to Ruskin High School, while Newland’s dedication at Hickman Mills Middle School has been equally impactful. Their work enhances educational outcomes and prepares students for future success by bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application.

The entire HMC-1 community celebrates and congratulates Ms. Hamilton, Ms. Bergeron, and Mr. Newland on their outstanding achievements. Their dedication and hard work are shaping the future of education and inspiring countless students to reach their full potential.
