Inclement Weather Decisions and Notifications
December 5, 2016
The winter months are here, and it is important to review procedure for closing or delaying the opening of school due to snow and inclement weather.
The Hickman Mills C-1 School District may close schools when weather creates unsafe travel conditions for our students, staff, parents, and transportation department. The decision to close school will be made by 5:30 a.m., when possible, to allow time for media to broadcast this decision prior to most students preparing for the school day. School closing information will be available on television stations 4, 5, 9, and 41. School closings will also be posted on the District’s website, social media (Facebook, Twitter), phoneblast, and a notification sent via the HMC-1 mobile app.
It is important to have plans for younger children when school is dismissed early. In the event a parent/guardian is not or cannot be home, arrangements should be made for the child to stay with a friend or relative. Parents should insist their children dress for protection against prolonged exposure to the weather as a safety precaution.
The decision to close school is always a difficult one. Every effort will be made to consider the safety of students, the safety of faculty, and the convenience to parents when making such decisions. Your cooperation and assistance is appreciated. It is always the parent/guardian’s decision to determine the safety for their child during inclement weather. If you have questions regarding school dismissal, call the school in which your child attends or refer to all of the communication mediums mentioned above. If you have not downloaded the HMC-1 school app, please visit Google Play or Apple’s App Store.
Sincerely,
Steven T. Meyers, Ed.D.
Executive Director of Operations
