No School Mar. 23 - Important Update on Novel Coronavirus Plans
March 12, 2020
Dear HMC-1 Families,
The Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-2019) is a rapidly changing situation, and our district’s priorities continue to be providing a safe, high-quality learning environment for students. I am diligently working with district leadership, our school board, educators, local health department, and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to ensure these priorities are met.
At this time, school will resume on Tuesday, March 24 to allow teachers a Professional Development day on Monday, March 23 where they will prepare for a Flexible Learning Plan (i.e., virtual learning). In the event that school closures become the safest decision for your student’s health after Spring Break, a Flexible Learning Plan will be the best option to continue educating students.
On Friday, March 13, we will be sending devices home with all students grades K-5. Students in grades 6-12 already have school issued devices. Students will be asked to ensure they take home their iPad or Macbook device with them prior to leaving for Spring Break.
We have communicated the numerous steps the district is taking to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. These include routine cleaning and decontamination methods and reinforcing best practices for staff and students, such as frequent and thorough hand washing, staying home if you are sick, and covering coughs and sneezes.
Please know I am taking decisions regarding COVID-19, and the impact of those decisions on you and your household, very seriously. We will continue frequent communication to keep you updated. Please direct questions and concerns you may have to our Administration Center, (816) 316-7000 or pio@hickmanmills.org.
Sincerely,
Yolanda Cargile, Ed.D.
Superintendent
