Real World Learning Brings Excitement to the Virtual Classroom
In September, HMC-1 and three partnering school districts, Center School District, and Grandview School District, were awarded grant funds from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation for the Real World Learning (RWL) program.
Through the RWL program, students are provided the opportunity to work, create, and make a visible difference in a real-world setting. This work is achieved with in-depth, hands-on learning experiences that explore a variety of career opportunities while earning credits for outside work through the Missouri School Flex guidelines.
Although the program has been virtual this year, it is still exciting those students who participate. “Attendance has been very good for that class,” said Torrence Allen, Ruskin High School Principal. “When kids are enjoying what they do, and they’re engaged in the work and they believe in it, they’re there.”
